If you want to create a custom Watermark for your document, please keep reading this tutorial but if you don’t know what a watermark really is, please see Watermarks in Word 2007.
In the Page Background section of Page Layout Tab, please click Watermark button. From the dropdown menu, now click Custom Watermark, doing this will open a menu as shown in the picture below.

In this tutorial I will focus Text Watermarks in Word 2007. If you want to use an image file instead of text as a watermark in your document, please see Picture Watermarks in Word 2007.
Coming back to the popup menu shown in the above snapshot, please click Text watermark and then follow the steps below.
- Please select your preferred language from the dropdown menu
- I typed “ASAP” as watermark text, you can type here whatever you want to
- Calibri is the default font in Word 2007, you can change it if you want to
- Select a font size, I often use “Auto” option for watermarks
- Select a color for your Text Watermark and click Semitransparent option
- As a final step of creating a Watermark, now choose the layout style (Diagonal or Horizontal) according to your need
Apply your settings now and click OK button.
You have now successfully created a watermark in your Word 2007 document.
