Majority of the users of Word 2007 use this leading Word Processor to create a single page letter, application, curriculum vitae or report about something that consists of hardly two to three pages.
What if you need to create a bigger document than that the majority of users create? If you are going to type a book, research or scientific papers or any document that contains tens of chapters and/or hundreds of pages, you will definitely add a table of content at the start of your document. But it is not sufficient to add just the title of the chapter/article into the table of content; you should mention a page number with every chapter, otherwise it won’t be easy for the readers to find the part of your book/document they want to read. Moreover, before mentioning this information into the table of content you need to assign a page number to every page of your document. This tutorial has been created to teach you about “Page Numbers in Word 2007”. Please follow the steps below; I have also used images to make it easier for you to understand.
- Open the document you want to assign page numbers to
- Go to “Insert” tab from the top ribbon
- Find and click “Page Numbers” in the “Header & Footer” section of “Insert” tab in Word 2007 (as shown in the picture)

- Upon clicking “Page Number” you will see a dropdown menu (see the snapshot)

- Use the options given in the dropdown menu to format page numbers in word 2007
Usually page numbers appear in the header or footer section of a document. Word 2007 offers many preformatted page number designs to help you quickly insert the one you like into your documents.
